Experience
I attended the University of California-Irvine, where I earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. I was a Dean's Scholar and also earned my master's degree from USC with a GPA of 3.98. I can provide tutoring in content areas such as English, elementary math, writing, reading, grammar and mechanics, and preparation for the ISEE, PSAT, and SAT. I have experience working in different fields of education, social services, and psychotherapy. I also enjoy working with children of all ages. Working as a professional in these fields, I know that students can have issues related to being motivated and self-confident. I try to address these issues that can affect learning in various ways, including establishing a relationship with them that is based on mutual trust, focusing on their strengths, and praising them. I also have training in mindfulness techniques that can be useful for children with behavior or anxiety problems that can affect their learning. Through using these various techniques, a student feels comfortable in an environment where he can make mistakes or gets extra attention without feeling bad about doing so. As an educator, my work experience includes being a K-3 literacy specialist, where I taught children in a Santa Rosa public school. I also taught English and elementary school math for eight months in Ecuador. In my spare time, I like to work in my vegetable garden, spend time with my grandmother, read a good novel, and go to yoga class.
